Valdez, Alaska

Valdez is located on the north shore of Port Valdez, a deep water fjord in Prince William Sound. It is the southern terminus of the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline. The population was 4,498 as of 2009.

The average snowfall in Valdez is 325 inches (27 feet) annually.

A tsunami wave during the 1964 earthquake destroyed the original city waterfront. The city was moved and rebuilt four miles to the west at it present location.
